Maddie is interested in ways to engage, empower and hand decision making to young people. Devising theatre is a perfect opportunity for this. As a facilitator she is highly responsive and imaginative, and creates energetic and focused environments. She can create a structured programme of activities to lead participants through an exciting process towards an end result.

She is a core teacher for Circomedia Youth Circus, teaching physical and performance skills to ages 5-18 in weekly classes. She has also directed or co-directed large scale performances and led students through a week long devising process. She is a regular teacher on ICAN, the accessible circus project for young people with educational needs or disabilities.

Other educational companies include Eastside Educational, Circus Fantastic, Little Player Theatre (Shanghai). She has a long standing relationship with Break Theatre, Rimini (Italy) for whom she has written theatre shows, workshops, full immersion projects and history tours, using creative and drama techniques to animate and physicalise language learning. (Please see the information about Peter Pan and The Snow Queen, which Maddie wrote and directed, under the Work page)

She has been a lead trainer with Circus Kathmandu, the social circus project in Nepal. Here Maddie supported the training of young people who had been trafficked into circus as children, building skills in a supportive atmosphere and preparing acts and short devised performances.

She has performed in many creative educational productions and physical theatre shows for family audiences including:

Breaking the Ice, Filskit Theatre (China Tour, 2019)

Webster and Jones: A pocket Guide to Wales, Dripping Tap Theatre (Wales Tour, 2016)

The King of Tiny Things, Meta Theatre (UK Tour, 2015)

"Maddie's passion, talent and knowledge as a creative educator/skills tutor has been a driving force behind the monumental growth of Circomedia Youth Circus, and the successful development of our students. Many of them have gone on to study Circus, Theatre or Performance at Higher Education level, in part thanks to her teaching and guidance"
